Ingo Maurer 2017
The archaic form of the egg and its constructive perfection have always been of great fascination. For Ingo Maurer, the egg is simply one of the most beautiful and harmonious forms nature put forth. The oscillating pendulum is a physical phenomenon of nature that provided orientation for the Egyptians. Observing a pendulum is one of the kinetic experiences that impact our well-being through their easing and regularity. This combination of the harmonious shape of the egg and the calming movement of the pendulum are the starting points for Ingo Maurer's pendulum objects. The ellipsoidal pendulum, whether at rest or swinging, has a strong presence in space, and is far more than a decorative object. Its charisma and impact is perceived intuitively and subconsciously, and requires no background knowledge from the viewer.
